Pune: Maitrayuva Foundation (MF) will be starting Diwali celebrations with the deprived as well as differently abled children from Saturday, October 7.
Around 200 members of the foundation have sold around 9,000 decorated clay lamps across the city over the last few weeks to raise money to celebrate Diwali with the deprived kids.
Speaking about the initiative, Sanket Deshpande of Maitrayuva Foundation said, “This is the sixth year that we will celebrate Diwali with the deprived disadvantaged children in the city. In association with different NGOs like Jeevan Dhara, Sevasadan Dilasa Kendra, Kothrud Balsadan, Saheli, etc., we will organise celebrations with special children, as well as the
The activities of the foundation include lighting fire crackers with these children, giving them sweets, new clothes etc. The members of the foundation go to these organisations and decorate them for the festival. They also make miniature forts with the children, a common ritual of the festival followed by children across the state.
On October 7, the members of the foundation will burst fire crackers and give gifts like new clothes, educational material etc. to around 55 children at Sevasadan Adhyapika Vidyalaya near Shanipar.
