Pune: As there was a huge rush to file the income tax returns on the last day on Friday, the website of the Income Tax return (ITR) crashed, depriving several citizens to file the returns. Owing to the inconvenience the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) has requested the Central Board of Direct Tax (CBDT) to extend the deadline for a week.
MCCIA has written a letter to Sushil Chandra, Chairman, CBDT, New Delhi on Friday. The letter was sent through an email to CBDT. In the letter, it was mentioned that “We are pleased to forward along with the letter a representation on the extension of due date of Income Tax Return for AY 2018-19 by one week. We sincerely hope that a favourable consideration of suggestion would help immensely the industry, trade and business.”
However, senior officials from the department said that the CBDT had already extended the dateline by a month. Earlier, it was July 31 and it was extended till August 31. Now, it is up to the Ministry of Finance to decide if they can extend the date further.
