Mandap contractors in the city join hands to fight for their rights

Pune: Mandap contractors (decorators) from the city have now joined hands to form their association to fight for their rights. According to Sanjay Kamble, member of the association, the association was formed on August 12 with 300 decorators from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Kamble said, “We thought of coming together to fight for our rights.”

Giving an example for the need of such an organisation, he said, “Many times, we are not paid the promised amount of money by the client after the work is over. Sometimes, traffic police harass us at junctions by charging fines for carrying heavy material. To speak out on such issues and make our case with government officials, we had no such platform.”

“There are 5,000 mandap contractors in the city. Gradually,” Kamble added.
