Pune: A man was arrested by thd police for murdering his 19-year-old girlfriend after being blackmailed by her for money. A case was registered at Warje Malwadi police station.
The accused has been identified as Vipul Shah (32), a resident of Manikbaug on Sinhagad Road, who strangulated his girlfriend Prerna Kamble, a resident of Dangad Patil Nagar and threw her body in the forest. Shah was aided by his employee Lahu Gonte, who is still at large.
Shah, who runs a shop in Warje Malwadi, was in a relationship with much younger Kamble and got fed up with her after she started blackmailing him for money. Kamble used to blackmail him, saying that she will reveal their affair to Shah’s wife, in case he doesn’t meet her requirement for money. She took money from him multiple times.
According to Warje Malwadi police, Shah was fed up with the blackmailing and decided to murder her. He called her on the pretext of taking her out to Mulshi on March 17 and then strangulated her with the help of his employee, in his car. After murdering her, Shah and Gonte threw her body in the forest area of Mulshi and returned to Pune.
Bajirao Mole, Police Inspector, Warje Malwadi police station, said, “A missing complaint was filed by the girl’s parents at Uttam Nagar police station on March 17. As we were also intimated about her disappearance, we started investigating and found out that she had an affair with Shah. On Friday, when we interrogated him, he confessed to his crime. We are looking for Gonte and will arrest him soon.”
The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC against Shah and Gonte.
