Man kills wife, son over alleged affair

Pune:  A man allegedly killed his wife and minor son after suspecting that his wife was having an extramarital affair. He also attacked his minor daughter and wife's alleged paramour. 

The incident took place around 1.15 am on Monday in Kanhe village, about 31 km from Pune, along the old Mumbai-Pune Highway in Maval taluka. After the incident the accused Vasant Saatkar (40) surrendered before the Vadgaon Maval police and confessed to the crime.

The deceased have been identified as Rajani Vasant Saatkar (38) and Anush Vasant Saatkar (13). The injured Shravani Vasant Saatkar (9) and Ganesh Ambekar are undergoing treatment at a hospital. 

According to police, Saatkar suspected Rajani was having an affair with Ambekar and this often led to quarrels between the couple. he assaulted his wife when Shravani intervened but in vain. He again hit Rajani and Anush with a chopper used for cutting sugarcane. After that he came out and attacked Ambekar, who lives in the same lane in his village, before approaching the police. 

Police Inspector Pradip Kale, in-charge of Vadgaon Maval police station, “The accused's wife and son died on the spot. The injured persons are admitted in Pavana hospital. Doctors have told us that they are out of danger.”

Based on complaint from Rajani's brother, police have registered an FIR against Saatkar for offences under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Saatkar has been arrested.
