Man jumps from second floor of girls’ hostel

Based on a complaint by the guard, an FIR has been registered against the man identified as Suraj Mahendra Soni, a native of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

PUNE: A 25-year-old businessman from Madhya Pradesh allegedly shot at the security guard of a girls’ hostel in Baner after he was prevented entry on Tuesday morning. He wanted to meet a girl with whom he had a one-side love, police said. 

Later, he jumped from the second floor of the hostel and is currently undergoing treatment. 

Based on a complaint by the guard, Vijay Birhade (52) of Mhalunge, an FIR has been registered against the man identified as Suraj Mahendra Soni, a native of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. 

According to police, the girl is pursuing post graduation in a city-based college and lives in the hostel. She was acquainted with Soni but had stopped taking his calls recently.

Around 6 am on Tuesday, Soni came to the hostel to meet the girl but was stopped by the guard as males are not allowed. There was a heated argument between them and Soni fired a shot at him. However, Barhade ducked and the bullet missed him. In the melee, Soni fled inside and fired some rounds in the air before going to the second floor. He threatened to jump down while shouting at the girl to come out. Hearing the commotion, other girls started coming out and he jumped from the building. After getting information, police also reached the spot and rushed him to the hospital. 

Senior Police Inspector Dyanand Dhome, Chatuhshrungi police station in-charge, said that a case has been registered against the youth for an attempt to commit suicide and illegal possession of firearms.
