Man held for lodging fake theft complaint

PUNE: A 24-year-old man has been arrested by Hadapsar police station officials for allegedly lodging fake complaint about theft of his Innova Crysta multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), worth Rs 18 lakh, to get the insurance money.

Kiran Dattatray Jadhav (24), a native of Osmanabad district, who is currently residing in Hadapsar, was not able to pay loan installments, hence he planned the fraud.

Police officials said that Jadhav had purchased the vehicle for using it as tourist vehicle. However, there was no good business and he was to pay the loan installments. He lodged an FIR with Hadapsar police station about theft of the vehicle on September 24, 2018 and applied for claiming the insurance money.

Acting on a tip-off, Police Sub-Inspector Mangesh Bhange and constable Vinod Shivle nabbed Jadhav with the vehicle in Manjri on Friday.

Police said that he wanted to sell the vehicle in Madhya Pradesh but could not do so. Also, he was yet to get the insurance money, because the police had not submitted final report. He had come here for getting information about the final report status, when the cops were tipped-off.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Tambe, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Chavan supervised the investigation team which included policemen Nitin Mundhe, Pratap Gaikwad, Akbar Shaikh, Shashikant Nale and Pramod Tilekar.
