Pune: A 25-year-old businessman was arrested for allegedly firing four rounds in air from a licensed revolver at a restaurant in Mundhwa. The incident took place following a scuffle after some people passed lewd comments against his female friends. Nobody was injured in the incident, the police said.

The incident took place around 1 am on Monday at Knight Riders Restaurant and Lounge, Mundhwa.

Officials from Crime Branch unit 5 had received information about the firing and accordingly, an FIR was registered against Tejas Prakash Gondhale, a resident of  Hadapsar. The whole incident has been caught on CCTV camera.

According to police, Tejas along with his three friends had gone to the restaurant for celebrating Friendship Day on Sunday around 11 pm. After dinner, he was paying the bill. “My female friend was going to the washroom when 5-6 persons made lewd comments. When my friend Akshay Fulare objected, they started beating him up. As I intervened, they threw a chair at me. To save myself, I fired four rounds in the air. After that, they fled from the spot”, Gondhale told the police in his statement.

However, no police complaint was filed by anyone. After getting  information, Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar and head constable Mohite questioned hotel staff and checked CCTV footage after which an FIR was filed.

A senior police officer informed, “We arrested Gondhale from his residence and produced him before a magistrate court, which granted him bail. Gondhale runs a ration shop and is also engaged in the business of water tankers.”
