Man held for extorting `10L from shop owner

Pune: A miscreant has been arrested by the sleuths of the airport police station for extorting money to the tune of Rs 10 lakh from a paint shop owner in Viman Nagar.

The arrested accused has been identified as Jitendra Bhosale, 34, a resident of Viman Nagar. Bhosale had extorted Rs 10 lakh from a 42-year-old complainant, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri.

According to the airport police, Bhosale has been extorting money from the complainant from February 2017. He told the complainant that if in case he wants to supply paint material for the construction work in the area, he cannot do it without the permission of the accused and has to pay an extortion amount. He threatened the complainant of dire consequences if he doesn’t fulfil his demands of extortion.

The police informed the accused started extorting money from the complainant in February 2017 and continued till September 15, 2018. He extorted Rs 10 lakh in 1.5 years and also, recently called him up again for Rs 2 lakh after which the complainant reported the matter to the police.

The police have arrested Bhosale and booked him under relevant sections of the IPC.
