Man held for attempt to kill estranged wife

A 43-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for carrying out a murderous attack on his estranged wife. The incident took assault on Monday near Gurudwara Lane in Camp after which a case was registered at Lashkar police station.

Pune: ​A 43-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for carrying out a murderous attack on his estranged wife. The incident took assault on Monday near Gurudwara Lane in Camp after which a case was registered at Lashkar police station.​​

The accused was identified as Mushtaq Shaikh, a resident of Mental Hospital Quarters in Yerawada. Shaikh was separated from his 31-year-old wife and they had two sons. An argument related to the expenses of the two sons lead to the murderous assault on the victim.

Santosh Kaate, Police Sub Inspector, Lashkar police station, said, “The couple were living separately for last 10 days. Since then they were in conflict with each other about who will bear the expenses of their sons. The victim wanted Shaikh to bear the expenses of their sons but he was not willing to do so. On Monday, Shaikh called her at a spot near Gurudwara Lane  in Camp and attacked her with an iron rod, causing severe injuries.” The police will produce the accused for hearing in court on Wednesday.
