Man gets 4 yrs RI for molesting girl in school

Pune: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment for molesting a girl at knifepoint in her school premises in Yerawada in 2016. Two teachers were injured while rescuing the 12-year-old girl.

Special judge VK Kadam also imposed a penalty of Rs 4,500 on the convict, Dinesh Dadu Sarsar. The convict worked as an operator with a bank in Magarpatta. The incident took place on February 12, 2016, in a school in Yerawada. 

According to the case, Sarsar had quarrelled with his wife under influence of alcohol. Using a ladder, he scaled the compound wall of the school and saw four girls going inside a washroom. He dragged one of them behind the washroom and started molesting her after threatening with a knife. The other girls rushed inside the school and informed a teacher, who with the help of another teacher managed to overpower him.

In his defence, the accused had said that he had gone to the school to take the hall ticket of a girl student, who is his relative, and due that he was implicated in a false case. However, she had denied this in court during her statement. 

The court found the accused guilty of outraging the modesty of a woman, assault, kidnapping, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, for sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 

Case details
The FIR, filed by a teacher, stated, “We saw that an unknown person had caught hold of a girl student and put a a knife to her throat and he was asking her to remove her clothes. He was giving threats and molesting her. I tried to catch hold of him, but he was armed with a knife and he assaulted me on the back. Thereafter, I caught hold of him and a scuffle took place. With the help of other teachers, I overpowered him and took the knife from his hand and took him to the front of the school.”
