Pune: The reserve driver of a minibus died after the driver at the wheel rammed the bus into a divider on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route on Nagar Road late on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Bharat Singh (57), a resident of Dinkar Vasti in Chandan Nagar. He died on the spot due to severe injuries. Driver Bajirao Patil (43) of Hadapsar has been booked by the Vimantal police for negligence.
The police said that on the night of the accident, Singh consumed alcohol and was sitting next to Patil, who was driving the bus. The minibus came from Viman Nagar Chowk and was on its way towards Singh’s home in Chandan Nagar.
The police said that Patil was driving recklessly at a high speed and, when he entered the BRTS lane, he could not control the bus and rammed into the divider.
