Pune: A 50-year-old man was booked by the Haveli police for allegedly having a nude sunbath at Sinhgad fort on Sunday morning. The accused has been identified as Latif Sayyed, who is booked under section 295 (A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal code (IPC).

The complainant, Swapnil Jamble (23), was present at the fort on Sunday morning with 17 of his friends, which also included a few women. Swapnil said that his group had gone to the fort to clean it on Sunday morning when they saw Latif taking a nude sunbath. "When he reached the spot, Latif was lying naked on a chair. When we questioned him about his behaviour, he said that he is in need of Vitamin D and so was taking a nude sunbath. Latif then wrapped himself in a towel and rushed from the spot," added Swapnil.

The 18 members of the group then approached Haveli police station and lodged an FIR in the case. "Sinhgad Fort is known for the glories of Shivaji Maharaj and if Latif is involved in such acts, it will certainly hurt our beliefs. We came to know that Latif works as an assistant engineer at Doordarshan and we demand his immediate suspension," added Swapnil. Haveli police were yet to arrest Latif till Sunday evening.

Haveli police is further investigating the case.
