Pune: A woman hailing from Goa was recently shocked to get phone calls from people asking for sexual favours. Irked by the calls, the woman was then shocked to see that a fake Facebook profile had been created on the social media site in which she had been labelled as a sex worker and details of her Pune-based friend are also uploaded on the same Facebook page.
The fake profile creator has also uploaded phone numbers of the two persons on the Facebook page which led to the several irritating phone calls. The victim’s friend then immediately sought help from cyber crime cell (CCC) of the city police and a criminal case was lodged at Hadapsar police station.
Investigation officials of CCC started collecting all technical details in the case. After investigation, the police arrested 27-year-old man Surendra Kumar Jain in the case. During interrogation, Surendra revealed that he got married three years ago and their relationship was under stress. Surendra then found out that the two victims who are friends of his wife, have helped her in finding a job.
Surendra could not take this and to teach a lesson to friends of his wife, he created a fake Facebook profile of the Goa-based woman and then started harassing them.
The investigating team included Police Inspector Radhika Phadke, Police Sub Inspector Nitin Khamgal and policemen Yogesh Ovhal, Nitin Chandane, Aslam Attar, Rosif Mulla and Santosh Jadhav. The Hadapsar police are investigating the case.
