Malusare memorial restoration work inaugurated on Sinhagad

MP Sule initiated the restoration and beautification work and allocated Rs 5.80 crore funds under the name of ‘Swarajyanishtha Shilpa Sushobhikaran’. The work was carried out by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) heritage cell. 

PUNE: On the occasion of the 349th death anniversary of Tanaji Malusare, one of the generals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Member of Parliament (MP) of Lok Sabha from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Supriya Sule, inaugurated the completed restoration work of the Malusare Memorial at Sinhagad Fort on Wednesday. 

The Meghdambari (canopy) and the bronze statue had suffered damages during the course of time. 

MP Sule initiated the restoration and beautification work and allocated Rs 5.80 crore funds under the name of ‘Swarajyanishtha Shilpa Sushobhikaran’. The work was carried out by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) heritage cell. 

The civic body restored the original tomb built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on Sinhagad Fort. 

For the inauguration programme, Mayor Mukta Tilak, opposition leader of NCP Dilip Barate and Pune Zilla Parishad members were present on the fort. 

Malusare had laid down his life while bringing the fort Kondhana into the fold of Swarajaya Kingdom built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1670. 

Pained by the loss of the brave warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had instructed his men to build the memorial of this great warrior. 

According to a historian, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had personally paid respect at the memorial. 

The civic body gave work to Rahul Samel, a consulting architect to restore the memorial and the beautification work. Corporation Heritage Department Head Harshada Shinde and Superintending Engineer Shivaji Lanke and Deputy Engineer of Heritage Cell Sunil Mohite supervised the project. 

Under the restoration work, the civic body completed the beautification work around the memorial, restored the memorial, constructed bronze meghdambari, placed murals based on wars episode of Sinhagad Fort battle and conducted electrification of the memorial.
