MahaMetro to transplant 167 trees

As per the DPR of Pune Metro in Pimpri Chinchwad, nearly 400 trees would be uprooted in Corridor One.

PIMPRI: MahaMetro has undertaken the work of transplantation of as many as 167 trees. Out of these, 106 trees are from Pimpri Chinchwad area. These trees are being transplanted in different gardens belonging to Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, informed Gautam Birhade, Chief Project Manager of MahaMetro Reach II. Birhade said that as the monsoon is round the corner, the work of transplantation of trees is going on in PCMC area.

The trees that have been transplanted include trees that have stood tall for years on the central divider of the Pune-Mumbai Highway. As per the DPR of Pune Metro in Pimpri Chinchwad, nearly 400 trees would be uprooted in Corridor One.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had given permission to axe 103 trees and transplant 334. However, officials said that they would transplant as many trees as possible. The trees are being transplanted in Rose Garden, Sewage Treatment Plant, Kasarwadi and Sant Tukaram Nagar ST Stand. 

So far from PCMC building to Harris Bridge the MahaMetro is planting 10 trees against one axed tree. The plantation drive is going on at many places including Dighi Camp Alandi Road - 1,500 trees, Grape Centre ON Alandi Road, 1,500 trees and ITI Aundh - 1,000 trees.
