We are against providing the garden land to Mahametro. On Wednesday, during the meeting with Additional Municipal Commissioner Bipin Sharma, we discussed the issue of handing over garden land to Mahametro. Dr Sachin Punekar, environmentalist and former tree authority member of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said, “We have already eaten a lot of green space in the city. Now, in the name of development, Government is acquiring existing garden land. This land should be exempted from the project. They should explore other options of private land and other government land. Pune city is one of the most livable cities and green spaces should be protected. It will hamper environment and help to increase pollution in the city in the name of development.”
