MADC waiting for notification of SPA status

While the MADC and the Pune collectorate have to start the land acquisition process for the airport, the compensation model to be opted by the government is also yet to be confirmed. This can be done after the MADC gets SPA status.

Pune: The development work of Purandar airport is yet to gain progress as Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the company which will be executing the development work is waiting for notification from the government about declaration of MADC as a Special Planning Authority (SPA) for the proposed airport. 

While the MADC and the Pune collectorate have to start the land acquisition process for the airport, the compensation model to be opted by the government is also yet to be confirmed. This can be done after the MADC gets SPA status. Pune Collector Naval Kishore Ram recently said that the collectorate  is planning to freeze land transactions in Purandar area as the process of land acquisition for the airport project is about to start. Ram had said they are waiting for confirmation for the same from MADC and Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA).

Speaking about the issue, PMRDA chief Kiran Gitte said that PMRDA is in no state to buy land in the area and they would have no problems if land transactions in the area are frozen. MADC Managing Director Suresh Kakani also said that the company will not be needing land in the area. “We are waiting for a notification from the government about SPA status and once we receive it, it we will go ahead with our work,” added Kakani. 

A total of 2,376 hectares have to be acquired at seven villages for the airport. The Pune district collector has planned to have five independent units for land acquisition process under separate deputy collectors to acquire land. Each deputy collector would be set a target of 600 hectares of land and the process would take 6 to 8 months’ time.
