Pune: Recently, fliers travelling through the Pune airport had raised the issue of overcharging by outlets selling coffee, tea and water in the airport premises. The issue was also raised by the airlines with the Pune airport authority. Finally, the Pune airport authority has started a low-cost outlet vending coffee, tea and water. Earlier in March, Sakal Times had covered the report that the airport will soon start a low-cost outlet.
Ajay Kumar, Director, Pune Airport, told Sakal Times, “We received complaints from fliers about the overcharging for coffee, tea and water so we have started a low-cost outlet from Monday. At the new outlet, coffee will be available at Rs 25, tea at Rs 20 and water will be available at Rs 10.”
The directives issued by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) last year had stated that restaurants and snack bars at Pune airport continued to overcharge visitors for water, tea and coffee in a clear violation of the directives of the airport authority.
The fliers have welcomed the move. Priyanka Rastogi, an IT professional said, “Food outlets at the airport charged extra from fliers. The restaurants were charging Rs 30 to 50 for tea and water which are essential items. Finally, fliers will get tea and water at reasonable prices.”
