Loudspeaker deadline likely to be relaxed for 5 days during festival

As per the Environment Protection Act, 1986, and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, the use of loudspeakers or public address system is banned from 10 pm to 6 am, except 15 days in a year. The State government grants relaxation of loudspeaker deadline on the particular days, mostly the days of important festivals

Pune: Pune district administration has written to the State Environment Department to allow them to relax the loud speaker deadline on September 4. The Ganesh festival will be celebrated from August 25 to September 5 this year. This correspondence was made after Ganesh mandals in the district urged the district administration to relax the deadline on September 4 to facilitate revellers to watch tableaux and decorations on a day prior to Anant Chaturdashi. The administration had already announced the relaxation of deadline on four days namely on 2nd, 5th day and on Gauri Visarjan and Anant Chaturdashi day respectively.

Shyam Mankar, President of Hatti Ganpati Mandal, told Sakal Times that this request was made as many revellers and devotees tend to throng to Pune city on the last four days of the festival.
