Lonavala police arrest five person in dacoity case of 865 cigarette boxes

Superintendent of Pune Rural Police Suvez Haque said that CCTV footage of Nandgaon and Supa were perused to look for the escape route of the container truck. During investigation the police also found that the accused had used a Scorpio car to execute the dacoity and that the car had been taken on rent by one of the accused.

PUNE: The Lonavla police have nabbed five members of a gang involved in stealing cigarettes worth Rs 1.87 crore. 

Around 865 boxes of cigarettes were stolen along with the container truck from Varsoli by eight to ten unidentified persons on September 8.

Superintendent of Pune Rural Police Suvez Haque said that CCTV footage of Nandgaon and Supa were perused to look for the escape route of the container truck. During investigation the police also found that the accused had used a Scorpio car to execute the dacoity and that the car had been taken on rent by one of the accused.

Deputy Superintendent of Police D Shivtare said that following the incident, the police started connecting the dots and found that the suspects involved are history sheeters. They nabbed the five persons. 

The police said the accused planned the dacoity for three months and found that the cigarette boxes are transported by only one driver. The police recovered 401 boxes of stolen cigarettes from the accused and are in search of three more accused in the case. The police investigation team included Assistant Police Inspector Sadhana Patil.
