LokSabha 2019: Only 49.84 percent turnout for LS polls in Pune

PUNE: Pune witnessed a low turnout on the day of polling for the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday as it failed to even touch the 50-pc mark. 

According to the election commission office, the turnout in the Pune parliamentary constituency was 49.84 percent, which was less than 54 percent recorded for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The election commission said the number of registered voters in the Pune constituency is 20.75 lakh. Of these only 10.34 lakh voters caste their votes on Tuesday. 

The Kasba Peth assembly constituency recorded the highest turnout of 55.88 percent while the Vadgaon Sheri assembly constituency recorded the lowest with 46.41 percent.

In Baramati 61.54 percent of voters caste their vote on the day of polling. However, the Baramati assembly  constituency recorded the highest ie 70.24 percent turnout while the Khadakwasla assembly constituency recorded the lowest, which was 53.20 percent. The total number of registered voters in Baramati constituency is 21.12 lakh, of these 12.99 lakh turned up on the day of polling.
