Pune: The Pune Citizens Doctors Forum (PCDF), along with the Sarthak Welfare Foundation, will organise its first public lecture on ‘dengue’ on March 22.
Interacting with the media on Monday, doctors with the PCDF said there is confusion among the public about dengue. The lecture, which is the first in the monthly lecture series, will help the common man understand the disease from a doctor’s perspective without causing panic.
Dr Arun Gadre from PCDF said people panic when someone in the family has a fever. “Dengue cases have increased, so have the myths and doubts about the disease. Through the lecture on March 22, we are hoping to address these questions. Also, the public will be free to ask questions about dengue and clarify doubts by expert doctors from reputed hospitals,” said Dr Gadre.
He said according to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) and the National Health Profile 2018, the number of patients affected by dengue and deaths due to it have considerably increased. “The number of dengue cases is increasing every year. Hence, knowing about dengue from authentic sources is important. This platform will take up similar day-to-day issues for awareness among the public,” he said.
Senior journalist Anand Agashe said, “Affordable and quality healthcare is today’s need. Hence, such interactions are needed.”
