Lecture by British expert at IUCAA tomorrow
The talk is jointly organised by British Council in association with IUCAA.
Pune: A lecture on 'Ancient light: The microwave background radiation and cosmology' by Prof Mark Birkinshaw, University of Bristol, UK, will be held at Chandrashekhar auditorium of Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) on Wednesday.
The talk is jointly organised by British Council in association with IUCAA. The lecture will help the audience to know the discovery of the microwave background radiation in the 1960s provided cosmology and astrophysics with a powerful tool for investigating the history of the universe and the nature of massive objects within it.
Birkinshaw is well-known for his work on structures in the microwave background radiation created by clusters of galaxies, on relativistic effects that distort the appearances of distant objects, and on interactions between outflows from active galaxies and the diffuse gas around them.
