Learner’s licence applicants in a tizzy due to a technical glitch

Pune: For the past two months, due to a technical glitch, a person who applies for a learner’s licence with Regional Transport Office (RTO) has to wait for 15 days just to appear for the test. Senior officials seem to be unaware of this problem.

Apparently, the applicant gets the date for the test immediately after filling the online application form on the Parivahan website but when s/he comes for the test at Pune RTO, their application numbers do not get verified due a technical glitch.

For the past two months, more than 20 applicants are visiting the office every 15 days for the test.

Vishnu Chowgule (19), resident of Balajinagar, visited the office twice this month for the test.

Originally, he got an appointment for July 4. When he submitted his documents for verification he got to know that his number was not visible and was told to visit on July 16. On Tuesday, he visited again, but the problem persisted.

“I got an appointment for July 4 to be present by 10 am. I submitted my appointment number. But I was told my number was not showing on the Parivahan website. The officer, who was supposed to take the test, told me to visit again on July 16. I visited again but the problem was not resolved.  I rescheduled my plan on both days as my classes are going on,” said Chowgule.

When contacted, the computer operator who verifies the documents for learner’s licence test told Sakal Times on condition of anonymity, “There is an issue with the website. The application number does not match the number shown on the website during verification. The website has been created by the National Information Centre (NIC), Hyderabad. We sent them a letter on the same day and we got an assurance from them that the problem will be resolved soon. But the situation is the same.”

According to sources, this is happening for past two to three months. Every day. around 20 applicants are sent back without giving any test. When contacted, Deputy RTO Vinod Sagre said he was unaware of the situation. “I have to check the facts. If it is happening from their (NIC) side we will ask them to resolve the issue permanently,” he said.

THE ISSUE

  • More than 20 applicants revisit RTO after 15 days.
  • Appointment number does not show on website for verification.
  • The website was created by NIC. The RTO has written to the NIC for a solution.
  • The technical problem is happening for past two months.
  • Around 275 applicants revisited RTO; but senior officials are unaware.
