Supporters of former MLA Vilas Lande have strongly reacted to the decision of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to field actor-turned-politician Dr Amol Kolhe in Shirur parliamentary seat.

Pimpri: Supporters of former MLA Vilas Lande have strongly reacted to the decision of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to field actor-turned-politician Dr Amol Kolhe in Shirur parliamentary seat.

A group of Lande supporters called on NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Saturday in this connection. A meeting of the supporters of Lande was held in Chakan on Friday soon after Nationalist Congress PartyP declared Dr Kolhe’s candidature in Shirur.

Some of Lande’s supporters have also forwarded a message on social media declaring their resolve to defeat Dr Kolhe in the elections. The message, which had gone viral, had caused uneasiness in the Nationalist Congress Party.

Lande, who is also former Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor, confirmed that a meeting of his supporters was held to express their displeasure over Kolhe’s nomination.

However, he said that the immediate reaction of his supporters was understandable as he had worked hard in the constituency, anticipating party’s nomination for the Lok Sabha seat.

Lande said that he will pacify his agitated supporters and work for the victory of the party’s candidate in the constituency.

Senior NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said that there was no dispute in the party over the candidature in Shirur.

“I have already spoken to aspirants Lande and Mangaldas Bandal and other party workers in this regard and all of them have started the party’s poll campaign,” he said.
