Popatlal Oswal, President of Poona Merchants Chambers, said, “There are more than 50,000 traders in the city and over 1,000 traders in Market Yard carrying out their business. But from the last several years, the parking issue is becoming a huge problem for the traders.”

PUNE: The traders are facing parking and infrastructural issues, which is hampering their business activities. Popatlal Oswal, President of Poona Merchants Chambers, said, “There are more than 50,000 traders in the city and over 1,000 traders in Market Yard carrying out their business. But from the last several years, the parking issue is becoming a huge problem for the traders. People come and park their vehicles in front of the shops and we are helpless. The local authorities are not helping us to solve this issue.”

Oswal said police patrolling should increase. “We should get a chance to have a discussion with police officers once a month at least,” he said.

Ganesh Shetty, President Of Pune Hotels and Restaurants Association said, “Parking issue has been escalating from last several years, but the concerned officials are not taking any steps to solve it. Since there is no infrastructure provided to commuters to park their vehicles, they park them even in ‘no parking’ areas where restaurants or other commercial establishments are situated, which disturbs the working period.”

Fatechand Ranka, owner of Ranka Jewellers and President of Jewellers Association, spoke about the steps taken by jewellers on careful handling of the situation when a customer does not have the receipt of gold while selling it to any jeweller. Ranka said, “To tackle this problem, we verify all details of the person who is selling the gold ornaments or bullion without the receipt to any jeweller. This was a huge problem earlier, but now we ask for all proofs and guarantee certificate, without which we do not take gold from anyone who does not have its receipt.”

Ranka said, “Laxmi Road, which is always active with vehicular movement should have a separate parking space. Because parking on both sides of the road makes the road more congested.”

PROMINENT ISSUES FACED BY TRADERS
- Parking areas should be notified
- Police should meet and discuss the issues of the associations
- People should be aware of what should be done when they do not carry old receipts of any gold or bullion while selling it to any Jeweller.
