Kidney transplant done successfully at Sassoon

PUNE: A 42-year-old woman from Hadapsar, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital for kidney failure, got a new lease of life after her husband donated his kidney to her. The kidney transplant was carried out at Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) on Friday. 

Her husband, who is 48 years old, sells vegetables at a local shop near their residence in Hadapsar. Their son studies in second year Bachelor’s of Commerce. The husband is the only earning member of the family.

The doctors who performed the transplantation are Dr Suresh Patankar, Dr Bhalchandra Kashyapi, Dr Abhay Sadar, Dr Niranjan Ambekar, Dr Dhanesh Kamerkar, Dr Rajesh Shrotri, Dr Abhijeet Patil and others.

Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Dean of SGH said there are around  15 patients on the waiting list for kidney transplants and five patients on the waiting list for liver transplant. “Five more patients are registering for liver transplant. The general hospital is an affordable option for people as all facilities are free of cost. So many should come and avail this under various schemes provided by the government,” said Dr Chandanwale.
