Pune: In light of the increase in the number of students, the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) will soon start construction of a new school building at the existing Col Bhagat English Medium School at Khadki Bazaar.
Amol Jagtap, Chief Executive Officer of KCB, said, “In every academic year, the number of students is increasing by 60 per cent. The school currently has 700 students while from next year, we will be starting classes till Std IX. The school was started seven years back and till last year, there were classes only till Std VII. Now, we are increasing the number of classes, as the number of students are also increasing every year.”
“The tender was proposed in November 2017 and was passed by the board recently, which was of Rs 2.17 crore. As per the construction plan, the building will have three rooms and an office on the ground floor while the first floor will have four rooms and a laboratory. On the second floor, there will be a science laboratory and a hall. The work will be completed in the next nine months,” Jagtap said.
Jagtap further explained that 70 per cent of students come from below poverty line (BPL) families. And such families, who cannot afford to admit their children in private schools, are getting quality education here. ”
