Pune: Jubilant over Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) performance in the state assembly elections of Karnataka, the Kannadiga community of city said that they can see Karnataka on the right path of development and progress.
While talking to Sakal Times, Ramdas Acharya, spokesperson of Kannada Sangh said, “The literate people of Karnataka have appreciation for BJP. Most of the Kannadigas residing in the city comes from south of Karnataka and this part of has achieved maximum literacy. And BJP has won seats from these areas, which shows that people have chosen BJP over other parties.”
He said, “This area has always been a stronghold of BJP. I remember that long back when the entire country was ruled by Congress, only Udipi Municipal Corporation was ruled by BJP (back then Jansangha). This makes it clear that the literate people always cast their votes thoughtfully.”
Ganesh Shetty, President of Pune Hoteliers Association, said, “People were tired of Congress as there was no work done by them. Mangalore and other coastal cities are very beautiful and have picturesque coastlines, but Congress never promoted tourism in the state. On the contrary, beach tourism has been very well promoted by neighbouring states.”
“Because of lack of tourism policy, no progress or development could take place here”, said Shetty adding that with no tourists, there are no hotels, restaurants or any other related business because of which there were fewer job opportunities.
“Moreover, we have a good port in Mangalore, but again it has not been used commercially leading to the hampering the development. It is used only for trading timber and granite,” said Shetty.
Despite getting adequate rainfall, within few months, the state suffers from drought as there is no mechanism to conserve water. All water flows down into the sea. “Thus, now with BJP in power in the state and also in the Centre, we can predict that our state will once again walk down the development path,” signed off Shetty.
