Pune: The jurisdiction of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL) has been increased from 3.5 sq km to 8 sq km for better execution of development projects planned under the ambitious Smart City project. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting by the board of directors of the company on Saturday.
Following the demand for increasing the jurisdiction made by the local BJP corporators, a proposal was put before the board of directors for their approval.
The jurisdiction of the Smart City Development Corporation Ltd was over 950 acres in Aundh-Baner-Balewadi, which has now increased to 2,500 acres.
However, the board of directors has expanded the jurisdiction, it has not increased the fund of Rs 2,196 crore for development
The new jurisdiction includes parts of Baner, Balewadi and Aundh, and civic facilities like roads, schools, hospitals, etc, will be made available to citizens.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Smart City Development Corporation Ltd Rajendra Jagtap said, “The board of directors meeting was held under the chairmanship of Nitin Kareer and he gave the go-ahead to expand the jurisdiction of Smart City project. The detailed working of financial implications and impact assessment will be submitted to the board, and after citizen engagement, final approval of PMC General Body will be taken.”
Why the move?
It is said that Smart City planned a total of 34 projects in certain areas of Aundh-Baner-Balewadi, but there are no open plots in the current jurisdiction of Smart City to carry out the development projects. So, the proposal about the expansion of jurisdiction was tabled before the board of directors.
