Junnar MLA booked for threatening cop

Pune: In a shameful incident an MLA has been booked for threatening to assault a woman police officer on duty. The incident occurred on Friday in the premises of Aale Phata police station. 

The man in question is the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s Sharad Sonawane who is an MLA from Junnar. Sonawane threatened to assault assistant police inspector (API) Jyoti Damale of Aale Phata police station after she stopped a vehicle of Sonawane’s supporter which was illegally carrying rationing wheat. The vehicle was carrying the wheat in order to sell it on the black market. 

According to the information provided by Pune rural police, on Friday afternoon a team lead by API Damale nabbed the vehicle of Yogesh Bhondhve which was involved in illegal transportation of rationing wheat. 

Bhondve who is a supporter of MLA Sonawane is in the business of illegal transportation of grains. After being caught by the police, Bhondve started an argument with Damale to release his vehicle, however, when she didn’t submit to his demands Bhondave called up Sonawane to Police station. 

Police informed, Sonawane reached the police station along with his supporters and asked Damale to release the vehicle. But when she denied releasing the vehicle Sonawane threatened to assault and charged towards her. 

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC against Sonawane.
