Jackie Shroff inaugurates sale of products made by Yerwada prisoners

These are for sale and are displayed at the showroom on the Airport Road near Yerwada Central Prison.

Pune: Film star Jackie Shroff inaugurated a sale of products made by jail inmates on the occasion of upcoming Diwali festival at the jail industries showroom near Yerwada Central Jail on Sunday. 

The actor appealed to people to buy the products to help the prisoners. “The products are of very good quality. People should buy them as it will boost the confidence of prisoners and help in their reformation and rehabilitation. Not only people of Pune but those in Mumbai should also buy them,” said Shroff, who bought some items like a towel, chair and Kolhapuri chappal. He said he will gift some items to his actor son Tiger Shroff. 

DIG of Prisons (West region) Swati Sathe said, “We have also put on sale Paithani sarees. It’s a skilled work done by the prisoners. They have been trained by experts for this purpose.” 

Special IGP Vitthal Jadhav and Yerwada Jail Superintendent UT Pawar were also present on the occasion. 

The inmates of the jail have been putting together their creativity and artistic skills and showcasing them during Diwali for several years. The prison inmates have crafted Diwali must-dos like diyas, candles, candle stands, greeting cards and paper lanterns. These are for sale and are displayed at the showroom on the Airport Road near Yerwada Central Prison.
