IRSDC hands over Pune station mgmt to pvt firm
“With this decision, the responsibility for integrated management of Pune Station will be given to IRSDC. This will help us to give better services to passengers." said Milind Deouskar.
PUNE: Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) has taken over the management of Pune Railway Station and handed it over to a private party named BVG, on Thursday.
IRSDC Director Kalpana Kaur and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Krishnath Patil signed the contract in presence of Pune’s Divisional Railway Manager Milind Deouskar.
“With this decision, the responsibility for integrated management of Pune Station will be given to IRSDC. This will help us to give better services to passengers. We will also be able to focus more on the core areas such as the operation of trains and ensuring safety and security of passengers,” said Deouskar.
Kaur said that the belief that privatisation will have an adverse effect on Indian Railways staffers was ill-placed. “The move has been taken by Indian Railways to ensure better facilities for passengers. The core areas and responsibilities of operations of trains, ticketing will remain with the Railways so that nobody loses their jobs. The passengers should also be rest assured that with this move, they will get better food without having to pay extra,” said Kaur.
As per officials, the financial model for the programme has been worked out in such a way that the government doesn’t incur much expenditure on these aspects. Until now, all kinds of works at Pune Station including catering, maintenance of the station, cleanliness, minor repairs, security, parking area, upkeep or retiring room, advertisements were being done by Indian Railways through hiring private agencies via tendering process.
