Inspector of PMC Garden Dept caught accepting Rs 40K bribe

Pune: An inspector of Pune Municipal Corporation’s Garden Department was caught taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a man who wanted permission to cut a tree near his house.

Sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune unit, laid a trap at joggers park in Kalyaninagar and arrested Rajendra Popat Kalaskar, a resident of Loni Kalbhor.

Pune: An inspector of Pune Municipal Corporation’s Garden Department was caught taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a man who wanted permission to cut a tree near his house.

Sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune unit, laid a trap at joggers park in Kalyaninagar and arrested Rajendra Popat Kalaskar, a resident of Loni Kalbhor.

According to ACB, the complainant’s house was getting damaged due to a tree near his society. Therefore, he had given an application at the Nagar Road ward office for cutting/chopping the tree. Kalaskar, who is Garden Department inspector, demanded Rs 60,000 for getting the approval from senior officers. The complainant approached the ACB who laid a trap and caught him accepting the first installment of Rs 40,000 on Monday. An FIR has been registered against Kalaskar with Yerawada police for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
