Indian History Congress  to be held at SPPU from December 28

The IHC will be returning to the city after a gap of 55 years

Pune: In what comes as good news for historians and history lovers in Pune, the city will witness the 79th Indian History Congress (IHC) to be hosted by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) from December 28 to 30 this year.

The IHC will be returning to the city after a gap of 55 years. IHC promotes and encourages scientific study of Indian history by holding congresses and publishing the proceedings, bulletins, memoirs, journals and other works related to historic events in India.

IHC consists of thousands of ancient history tellers and scholars of academic and professional history. Indian Council of Historical Research in Pune had established IHC in 1935, after which Deccan College had hosted the event in 1963. 

The History Department of the SPPU was established in the year 1969, therefore as a part of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebration, the department will be hosting the event this year. 

Almost 15 parallel sessions will be conducted and about 800 research papers will be presented during the three-day event. As many as 3,000 historians are expected to attend the congress, said History Department Head Radhika Sesan.
