Indian classical vocal music courses to take off in city

In this course, students will be taught ragas like Bhoop, Yaman, Bhimpalasi and be introduced to important components of Indian classical music.

Pune: Music enthusiasts in the city will now get a chance to pursue classical vocal education at the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Vidyalaya, an esteemed institution governed by Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, organisers of the iconic Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav. The institute will administer a special certification course in Indian classical music.

The course will be available in Basic and Diploma category and would entitle primary teaching to the participants. The duration of Basic Vocal Education would be of one year, while it’s two years for the diploma
course. 

The course will be conducted at the institute at Sawai Gandharva Smarak near Rahul Theatre in Shivaji Nagar. In this course, students will be taught ragas like Bhoop, Yaman, Bhimpalasi and will be introduced to the important components of Indian classical music such as Taal, Sur, Swarlipi, Bandish and Aalap. The students will also be taught by some eminent artists in the field of Indian Classical Vocal during the course. 

Audio-visuals of renowned artists will also be shown as a part of the curriculum. Anyone who has passed Class V and is of the age 10 years and above can apply for the course. After completion of the course, successful candidates will receive certificates from Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Vidyalaya.

Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal is the organiser of the prestigious Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav. The Mandal was started by famous vocalist Abdul Kareem Khan from Kirana Gharana.
