Indian Chitin & Chitosan Society meet in city

Pune: Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune is hosting the 7th Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society Meeting 2018 which is being held from October 11 to 13. The meet focusing on the development and promotion of technologies based on the biopolymers chitin and chitosan in agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, environment, food science, biotechnology, nanotechnology etc. The event was inaugurated on Thursday. 

Researchers and entrepreneurs working on chitin/chitosan and on various biopolymers come together during the meeting every year. It includes about 25 scientific deliberations by invited speakers on Chitin and Chitosan and its applications from agriculture to healthcare. It also comprises four award lectures and poster presentations by research students from different parts of India. 

The plenary lecture will be delivered by Rajendra Prasad, Director, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University, Gurgaon on the topic ‘The fungal cell wall: Chitin and glucans are favourite drug targets of humans.’
A special cover on chitin/chitosan polymers by Department of Posts, the government of India was also released on the occasion to propagate its awareness in India and abroad. It highlights the use of different sources for chitin and chitosan. About 170 people are participating in this meet. Equipment related to the chitin and chitosan research are also on display in the exhibition.
