Pune: The fifth edition of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti 2017’ will be conducted at Aundh military station here from October 13 to 25. Last year the exercise was held in Sri Lanka.

“Mitra Shakti” series of bilateral exercises are one of the major bilateral defence cooperation initiatives between India and Sri Lanka since 2013, as a response to China's effort to increase its influence in the Indian Ocean region.

Army officials said both armies would get familiar with the respective methodology of operations, each other’s arms and equipment and the command and control systems.
