Independent corporator’s kin kidnapped

Pune: An independent corporator Pravin Shantaram Gore from Chakan Municipal Council was allegedly kidnapped by relatives of NCP’s municipal council presidential polls candidate. He was later traced to Karnataka by a Chakan police team.
Gore’s brother Amol lodged a complaint with the Chakan police against Mandar Deshmukh, brother-in-law of NCP candidate Vrushali Deshmukh.
Elections for the presidential post of Chakan Municipal Council is scheduled on July 14. The tug of war for corporators of respective sides has intensified in the last few days. Fifteen days ago, Gore along with other independent corporators Sudam Shevkari, Prakash Bhujbal and Dheeraj Mute went to Goa for a trip along with Mahendra Galphade, the son of BJP corporator Surekha Galphade.
Currently, Shiv Sena is in the power of the newly urbanised industrial town with nine of its own corporators and with the support of six independents. NCP has seven corporators in the municipal council, while the BJP has one corporator. Due to a close fight for the post of president of the municipal council, the role of independent corporators has become important.
All corporators were in touch on mobile with their family members. But their phones are not reachable since July 4. On July 10, Pravin contacted his family members from an unknown number and informed them that he is in Hyderabad and his cell phone was allegedly taken away by Mandar Deshmukh.
He also stated that that Deshmukh is threatening him with dire consequences if he votes against the NCP candidate in the election, as per the complaint.
Based on the complaint, Chakan police have booked Deshmukh for kidnapping and are investigating the case further. Although family members of Gore have lodged a police complaint, NCP members alleged that they have lodged a false complaint at the behest of Shiv Sena. Gore is in fact gone for a foreign tour, they said.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector Manoj Yadav of Chakan police station said Gore was traced to Karnataka by a team of Chakan police station. “He is safe with us, our interrogation is pending and we need to investigate whether he was kidnapped.” added Yadav.
