Independence Day to be celebrated at National War Memorial

Pune: The 71st Independence Day will be celebrated on August 15 by conducting commemorative events at various locations within Pune and neighbouring military stations. An event will be held at the National War Memorial located at Camp, Pune, wherein a traditional ceremonial service is being organised to pay tribute to the martyrs.
A commemorative wreath will be laid by Brigadier Rajiv Sethi, Station Commander, Pune, on behalf of all ranks of Pune military station at the National War Memorial at 9 am, in the presence of a ceremonial guard, accompanied by a military brass band.
The ceremony will be attended by military personnel of the station, besides school children and citizens of the city. As per established practice, the memorial will remain open to all to pay homage to our martyrs from 8 am to 8 pm on Independence Day.
Lieutenant General P Mohammed Hariz, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Pune-headquartered Southern Command, in his message on the occasion said, “Our Independence is a gift handed down to us by our forefathers, who earned it through sweat and blood. With deep humility, I pay my respect to our gallant countrymen whose sacrifices made the dawn of freedom possible. On this solemn occasion of Independence Day 2017, I extend my warmest greetings and felicitations to all our country men.
Southern Command has been in the forefront of all activities, whether it is the protection of our Western borders or providing relief and succour to our citizens in times of internal strife and natural calamity. We remain dedicated to the wellbeing of our motherland, its citizens and its sovereignty.”
