IMD predicts heavy rain over Odisha, dry weather in Maharashtra

Weather is likely to be dry over the remaining parts of India including Maharashtra for the coming week.

Pune: Heavy rainfall has been forecasted by India Meteorological Department (IMD) over coastal Odisha till October 21. Rainfall is expected at many places over West Bengal, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya till October 20. 

The rainfall is attributed to the depression formed over west central Bay of Bengal in the early morning on Thursday. It moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph. The system is very likely to move initially north-northwestwards and cross Odisha coast between Puri and Chandbali around midnight of October 20. It is likely to intensify into a deep depression till evening of October 20. 

Squally winds speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are very likely along and off Odisha, West Bengal coasts and north coastal Andhra Pradesh. IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea off Odisha and West Bengal coasts. 

Rain at isolated places likely over parts of peninsular India and rest northeast India and south peninsula. IMD has predicted increase in rainfall likely over southernmost peninsula from October 25.

Weather is likely to be dry over the remaining parts of the country including Maharashtra for the coming week.
