PUNE: The minimum temperature in the city was 13.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, hinting at a warmer week ahead. Not just Pune, the entire State is witnessing above normal minimum temperatures this winter.
On Thursday, the lowest minimum temperature was at Gondia at 8.2 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry weather in Maharashtra and Goa till January 15. For Pune, the minimum temperature will be 12 to 13 degrees Celsius till January 17. The maximum temperature will be between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Tamil Nadu.
The lowest minimum temperature across the country was recorded at 1 degree Celsius at Churu in west Rajasthan.
Dense to very dense fog was observed at Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Thursday. IMD predicted that cold wave to severe cold wave conditions at a few places over Rajasthan. Cold wave conditions likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh till January 15.
LA NIÑA CONDITION TO CONTINUE TILL SPRING
According to the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) bulletin for December 2017, La Niña conditions are likely till spring of this year. Also, the current neutral IOD conditions are prevailing over equatorial Indian Ocean.
An IMD official stated, “The probability forecast for ENSO indicates maximum possibility of La Niña conditions likely to continue till April-May-June, which gradually reduces till June-July-August 2018. The probability for neutral ENSO conditions is likely to increase from March-April-May to June-July-August seasons.”
