IMA to hold Gericon 2018

Dr Meenakshi Deshpande said that the conference aims at touching various important topics that will be beneficial for the doctors as well as patients.

PUNE: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Pune chapter, has organised ‘Gericon 2018’, a two-day conference about geriatric diseases at Tilak Smarak Mandir from July 14. Geriatrics or geriatric medicine is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults.

Speaking about the conference, Dr Meenakshi Deshpande, organising secretary for the conference, said that the conference aims at touching various important topics that will be beneficial for the doctors as well as patients.

“We see a lot of old patients around us. This conference aims to understand various topics like sleep disorders among elders, palliative care, diabetes, sexuality among elders, etc,” said Deshpande.

She further added that important topics like psychological problems in old age, as well as happiness in old age will be discussed. The programmes are also open to citizens.
