I-T raids at PMC corporator Baburao Chandere's residence, farmhouses

Pune: The investigation team of the Income Tax Department conducted raids at 14-15 premises owned by Pune Municipal Corporator Babaurao Chandere, including his residence and farmhouses on Tuesday. 

The raids started early in the morning and went on till late night. Chandere is a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader.

According to an official of the department, “The raid was conducted by unit one of the investigation wing. The officials started their search operations early in the morning until the late night. The department has seized a computer hard disk and some documents.” 

The raid was conducted at 14-15 premises, including his Bavdhan residence and a farmhouse in Mulshi. The search was related to evidence of 'disproportionate assets'. 

According to sources, 12 officials of the department were involved in the raid. However, I-T Department sources refused to provide more information about this. 

Chandere has been elected three times as a corporator till date. He also contested the State Assembly election from Kothrud constituency, but was defeated. He has many businesses. He recently spent billions of rupees on his son's wedding, which was a point of discussion. On this backdrop, the I-T officials raided his house.
