I-T Dept attaches seven properties worth Rs 80 cr

Pune: The Income Tax (I-T) Department of Pune region has registered 140 cases under ‘Benami Provision Act’ formulated in 1988. However, its strict and complete implementation began from November 1, 2016. The current market value of these 140 cases is around Rs 200 crore. Meanwhile, the department has now finally attached seven properties which has a market value of around Rs 80 crore.

A highly placed source from New Delhi said, “We attached properties in Pune region, which excludes only Mumbai, under the Benami Provision Act. These 140 cases are under Adjudication Authority in New Delhi and the seven properties which has been attached has been passed by the Adjudicating Authority.”

Giving an example, the source said a person sold some property to those who were close to him while some were sold under fake names. The source revealed that these properties belonged to Pune, Raigad and Shikrapur areas. The properties included lands, vehicles, housing societies and flats.
 
“Immovable property included land admeasuring 0.58 hectare situated at survey no 220, Gat number 5/1A, Hinjawadi. The plot was purchased by giving a fake name,” the source said.

“However, the plot was reflected in the account book of that person but the transactions came under the nature of benami transactions and hence, it was adjudged as benami property under the act. The property is finally attached by the Adjudicating Authority,” said the source.
 
In another case, a property located on MG Road, Camp in Pune admeasuring Rs 1.71 crore, registered sale deed no 5380/2012 dated May 9, 2012 was attached, besides a house purchased for Rs 84 lakh at Viman Nagar, has also been attached.
 
A property in the farm land admeasuring 9 Ha 71 R bearing survey no 81/0 at Village Bedgaon, Tehsil Mangaon District Raigad was purchased in different names. The property has been attached under section 24(4) and a reference under section 24(5) of the PBPT act (Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988).

As per the source, “Two vehicles worth Rs 50 lakh has been attached under PBPT act and the order of attachment were passed by the Adjudicating authority under section 26(3) in December 31, 2018. Apart from this, land bearing Gat number 59/1 B/2 and construction of 5 storey building consisting of 90 flat/units there on at Hivre road, Shikrapur, Tahsil Shirur were also attached.”
