Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro work to start by June this year

Pune: The work on the third Pune Metro route i.e. Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar is expected to start in June this year. 

The metro project which will cost around Rs 8,313 crore was approved by the State Cabinet on Tuesday. 

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said that the metro project is about 23.3 km long and will pass via Hinjawadi phase III, Wakad, Balewadi, Pune University and Shivajinagar and will have around 23 stations.

“The project will be completed via public-private partnership (PPP) model and will be implemented as per the Central government’s new Metro Policy. All stations will be equipped with the latest technology, amenities and state of the art architecture. The metro will be monitored with the help of automated technologies. At Shivajinagar, it will align with other two metro lines at Civil Court Junction,” officials said. 

The phase 1 of the metro project which includes building the metro from Hinjawadi phase III to Balewadi is expected to end in April 2019 and phase 2 from Balewadi to Shivajinagar will be completed by April 2021.


Key decisions taken in Cabinet meeting

 PMRDA has been notified as Special Planning Authority for the metro project.
 Metro Line - 3 Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar fare will be similar to that of Ramwadi-Vanaz and Pimpri-Swargate metro.
 Unified Metropolitan Transport Committee (UMTA) will be established soon.
 Central government to finance Rs 1,137 crore as Viability Gap Funding (VGF) and State government’s Rs 812 crore will be raised through land development by PMRDA.
 Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 has been declared as ‘vital infrastructure project’ and people affected by it will be rehabilitated as per Mumbai Urban Transport policy.
