Heavy rain leads to traffic snarls, tree fall incidents

Pune: Slow moving traffic was reported in various parts of the city following rains on Tuesday. According to officials of the city police traffic department, traffic was slow moving in Kothrud, Kalyani Nagar, Koregaon Park, Ahmednagar Road, Baner and few other areas.

There were around 12 minor incidents of tree branches falling in Kothrud, Bhavani Peth, Salisbaury Park, Lullanagar and other areas. Officials of the fire department said that no person was injured in these incidents. Two cars were damaged in Parsi Colony, Lullanagar after a tree fell on them.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old two-wheeler rider, Shankar Potdar, was killed after he was knocked down by a speeding dumper on Tuesday afternoon on Pune-Nashik Highway near Moshi Chowk. The dumper driver abandoned his vehicle and fled from the spot. In another accident, a tanker carrying nitric acid overturned on Tuesday on Khambatki Ghat in Vele about 70 km from Pune on the Pune-Kolhapur route. Traffic on the road was halted for an hour by the Khandala police to take the tanker off the road.

The police said that as the tanker was carrying Nitric acid, they had to take precautions. Traffic was also diverted for some time in the ghat section. According to the State Highway police, traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was not much affected.
