Heavy and continuous rains affect power supply in the city

PUNE: Due to heavy rain in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, water is being released from the dams in nearby areas. As a precaution, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has stopped power supply in some areas.

On Sunday the water level in the dams rose considerably in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and rural parts of the district. The power supply was stopped since Sunday morning. Similarly, the power supply had shut due to trees falling on the power channel and water entering the feeder boxes.

“Power supply was kept off due to water accumulation in some of the main areas along the Mula, Mutha, Pavana and Ramnadi rivers. The water seeped in feeder boxes in Aundh, Bopodi, Bavdhan, Baner, Balewadi, Madhuban Colony, Old Sangvi, Wakad Gaothan, Kaspte Vasti, Pawananagar, Chinchwad, Pimpri Nilakh, Kasarwadi, Kalewadi, Shivtirth and other areas,” said Bharat Pawar, Deputy Chief Spokesperson of MSEDCL.

“The district administration has said there will be incessant rain and Mahavitaran has been ordered to take proper care for safety of citizens. Consumers are requested to cooperate with Mahavitaran,” said Sachin Talewar, Chief Engineer, Pune Circle of MSEDCL.
