HC stays trial against Desai

Pune: The Bombay High Court (HC) on Tuesday stayed the trial against Dhananjay Desai, head of right wing organisation Hindu Rashtra Sena, who is an accused in the 2014 murder case of Mohsin Shaikh, till the revision application filed by Desai is decided by the HC. 

Desai had filed the application last year seeking discharge from the case. Earlier, the Pune district court had rejected his discharge plea in June 2016.

Desai had filed the application last year seeking discharge from the case. Earlier, the Pune district court had rejected his discharge plea in June 2016. 

Shaikh was attacked and murdered by a mob on June 2, 2014 in the violence that erupted in the area due to a controversial post on social media. 

Before the incident, Desai held a meeting in Hadapsar in January 2014. He delivered a speech which allegedly instigated the violence, the police chargesheet states.
